‘I don’t take that lightly’ – Championship head coach reacts to his Millwall appointment
Championship news: Millwall have announced the appointment of a new head coach
Joe Edwards is the new head coach of Millwall, Sunderland’s Championship rivals.
Edwards served under former manager Thomas Tuchel while in the Chelsea youth system before joining Frank Lampard’s Everton team.
“First of all, my family and I are really proud of today,” Edwards stated on the Millwall club website. Many will know that even though I have been coaching for a while, this is my first experience managing as head coach.
“At different points over the years, you’ve thought that it would be nice to have the chance to advance. I don’t take being the head coach of Millwall Football Club lightly, especially at a club like this one. I’m very happy about it.
James Berylson, the chairman of Millwall, continued, “I’m excited with Joe.” He is someone who, in my opinion, is quite inventive and has some insightful suggestions on the advancements our group may achieve.
Joe was fascinating, focused, and impressive the entire time, and I thought we might have a fruitful working relationship. It was a meticulous process with no detail overlooked.
“We welcome both Joe and Andy to The Den with open arms and look forward to seeing the impact they can make on and off the pitch throughout what we hope to be a long relationship with Millwall.”
This coming Saturday, Edwards will manage his first Championship match at Hillsborough, as Sunderland will take on Birmingham City at the Stadium of Light.
