Ipswich Town have issued a visiting fan guide for Millwall supporters making the journey to Portman Road on Wednesday night.
The Lions take on The Tractor Boys in the Sky Bet Championship (kick-off 8pm) under the lights – and with a healthy crowd expected in the away end, details such as where to go pre-match, information on the matchday programme, security and much more.
Alcohol is expected to be served in the away end prior to kick-off and at half-time, whilst there are additional train services back to London – as well as those stated in the guide – at 10.07pm (changing at Colchester) and at 10.19pm (stopping at Shenfield and Stratford only).

Travelling to Millwall

Supporters’ Coach
For those travelling from Ipswich the coach from Portman Road is a good option. Coaches will take you right to the away end. The coaches are leaving Portman Road at 4pm at a cost of £21 for adults, and are estimated to arrive back at Portman Road at half past midnight. Coaches can be booked on www.itfcdirect.com.
Car
Millwall Football Club has no car parking facilities for fans so they strongly advise that away fans travel by either the official supporter coaches (see above) or by rail (see below). If you must drive, www.footballgroundguide.com suggests street parking on the estate next to the ground. You do this at your own risk, of course.
If you have a Sat Nav, set it to SE16 3LN, and then you can ignore the rather complex instructions below! Beware of average speed cameras which cover much of the route between the M25 and the City, with speed limits which seem to vary almost randomly. There are even average speed cameras in the Rotherhithe Tunnel (20mph).
The most direct route for the non-Sat Nav enabled is to take the A12, then the M25 towards the Dartford Crossing, then pick up the A13 towards London, which becomes the A1261 as you approach Canary Wharf. You will pass Billingsgate Market and the Canary Wharf complex, but then keep left (don’t go into the Limehouse Tunnel), and head towards the City. At the junction of the A1261 / A13, turn left and stay in the left lane. After about a quarter of a mile, turn left into the Rotherhithe Tunnel. At the end of the tunnel, take the second exit at the roundabout (a right turn) onto the Jamaica Road. After 200m, turn left onto Southwark Park Road, then, at the first roundabout, turn left onto Galleywall Road. At the end of Galleywall Road, turn right onto Rotherhithe New Road and almost immediately turn left onto Ilderton Road. After about 300m, if you take the first left onto Bolina Road, then you’ll come to the ground, but there is no parking, so you will need to find street parking. From personal experience, make sure you remember exactly where you have parked the car, as the streets around the ground can be very confusing in the dark.
Train
There are currently no planned engineering works between Ipswich and London on the evening of the game.
Millwall is close to several stations.
Trains go out of London Bridge to South Bermondsey station, which is around five minutes’ walk from the away end and just four minutes by train from London Bridge. The easiest way from Liverpool St to London Bridge is to walk (around 20 minutes, but you pass too many good pubs to make it that quickly). Or take a 35, 47, 48 or 149 bus from the stop next to Tesco on Bishopsgate. If you take the tube, then it’s the Central Line to Bank, then the Northern Line to London Bridge.
Trains from London Bridge run on a frequent basis. A walkway from South Bermondsey goes straight to the away end. After the match, there are trains scheduled for 21:44 and 21:59 from South Bermondsey, but note that it isn’t unknown for away fans to be held back outside the station until the first train has departed. You are by no means guaranteed to make the 22:30 out of Liverpool St to Ipswich.
Surrey Quays is around 20 minutes’ walk with New Cross or New Cross Gate around 30 minutes’ walk to the ground.
The nearest underground station is Canada Water. If you are travelling from Ipswich then you can change at Stratford on to the Jubilee Line to Canada Water. The ground is around a 20 minute walk from Canada Water or you can catch bus number P12 from the bus station to the ground.

Pubs
There are very few pubs close to the ground and these are not away friendly pubs. If you are travelling by the train then you will find a few Town fans in pubs around Liverpool St, London Bridge and Borough Market. Note that several of these, including the Market Porter on Stoney Street, don’t allow football shirts so you may want to avoid colours.
The Barrowboy and Banker, on London Bridge, which is usually popular with our fans, is closed until late September for refurbishment.
Pubs in the area include the Shipwright Arms on Tooley Street, the Wheatsheaf on Stoney Street, the Market Porter on Stoney Street and the highly touristy George on Borough High Street (the one with Dickensian connections). It is also worth checking out the Sheaf on Southwark Street, which is cavernous and popular, and the Old Kings Head (in its own alleyway opposite Borough Market), which is always popular with Town fans.

Programmes
Programmes will be on sale outside the ground at a cost of £3.
Food and Drink facilities
From previous experience in the away end you will find the usual football food. Millwall have not yet confirmed whether alcohol will be on sale.
