Enzo Maresca says he is not looking too far ahead as Leicester City look to tighten their grip on a position towards the Sky Bet Championship’s summit.
Following the lions, Birmingham city are up next before on monday, before hosting Rotherham United on December 23rd. Maresca is aiming for as many points as possible in three games, with little regard for where the Foxes will be in the new year.
“We have a lot of games coming up in the next two or three weeks,” the Italian said in his pre-match press conference. “Winning a game is the most important thing right now.” We have one more game at home, which will undoubtedly be difficult.
“Right now, it’s important not only for us, but for every team, to win games, and after Rotherham, we only have 23 games to get the most points we can.” It’s been four or five weeks since we announced that after Rotherham, there will be 23 games, or a half-season.
“We can see where we are and, at the very least, have a better idea of what we need in the future.” We can say that we need this or that to attain our goal. The only thing that matters right now is tomorrow, followed by Birmingham and Rotherham, and then we’ll see.
“It’s a tricky time because it’s December, Christmas – there are a lot of games.” You can play poorly. It’s a delicate month, but the only way for me to focus is to think about the next game, and then the next, and so on.
“With this many games, it’s impossible to think about the next three, four, or five.” The focus is on tomorrow, and then we’ll move on to the next one starting tomorrow night.
“If you want to keep your high standards, you must change.” It is hard for 11 players to play every game at the same level because they are exhausted in some games. We need to alter and revitalise.
“It is possible that we will repeat the same XI at times.”, but in most cases, we need to recharge our batteries.
“We’ve already broken some records.” It’s good, but like I stated at the start of the season, it’ll be more meaningful at the conclusion of the season if we meet our goal; else, it’s just something unimportant.”
In October, Rowett. According to Maresca, this lends an element of unpredictability to a team that is now in the lower regions of the division.
“They just changed their manager five or six games ago,” said the 43-year-old. “You can tell they’re trying something new.” The only thing we’re ever concerned about is how they’ll get here.
“If they come like last game and try to find more solutions in behind like what happened the other day… otherwise, we’ll try to be patient, be clinical when we have the chance, and win the game.”
“In this case, we watch the last five or six games and when something happens like this we also try to watch previous teams from this manager to see if we can see some similar things to prepare for the game.”
The significance of the Blue Army
Another home game, only four days after upsetting Plymouth Argyle at Filbert Way, Maresca acknowledged the role the fans can play this time.
“I said since day one, we need our fans 100 percent,” the former Manchester City boss added. I know it was a difficult time for them following their relegation. We are still in the Championship, but we are attempting to assist them in joining us.
“We appreciate every effort they make when we play at home and away.” It’s a terrific feeling to watch QPR away, West Bromwich away, and certain games at home where we can all be satisfied at the conclusion.”
