Millwall have announced they have formally proposed to Southwark Council a renaming of ‘Zampa Road’ to ‘John Berylson Way’.
The former Millwall chairman died in July at the age of 70 in a car accident, with his son James succeeding his father later that month.
The club statement read: “Since John’s tragic and sudden passing on 4th July 2023, the club has considered a vast array of ideas as to how it can honour a man that gave his all for Millwall and its local community.
“As part of these plans, the club can confirm it has formally proposed to Southwark Council a renaming of ‘Zampa Road’ to ‘John Berylson Way’.
“The club has been in close dialogue with the local community to ensure their voices and opinions are heard by all parties as part of this process.
“The proposal to Southwark Council is part of ongoing plans to further commemorate the life of John Berylson and continue his legacy at Millwall and supporters will be kept updated with continued progress.”
Former Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has encouraged everyone in the country who can afford to do so to buy a newspaper, and told the Downing Street press briefing:
