Millwall boss gives insight into transfer strategy with January approaching’

Joe Edwards says him and recruitment chief Alex Aldridge are in constant communication over potential moves

The Lions’ head coach has been in charge for more than a month and has overseen a mixed bag of outcomes.

But the 37-year-old was recruited for success over the long-term which will likely include plenty of recruitment to help mould the team gradually.

Alex Aldridge, Director of Recruitment, had stated that the January window will not see much business, but Edwards stated that constant conversations are still taking place.

“Those discussions are pretty much ongoing to be honest,” Millwall’s manager said. I communicate with Alex several times each day, whether it’s about issues with the present squad or players we’re hoping to bring in, whether it’s in January or the summer. We have a clear vision of where we want to go and how we want our team to appear as we move forward.

“I believe it would be disrespectful to anyone on our current team to begin naming areas of the team or the types of players we want to bring in.” But for sure those conversations are there. When you are where we are in the market you have to recruit well and use your finances smartly which the club do really well.

“But it’s constantly going on in the background and we have a clear idea of what we want to do but it will take time. And January is notoriously is the most difficult window to do that I think.”
