The Lions have won only won of their last 12 games after being denied three points by a late Huddersfield penalty
JOE Edwards has revealed that Frank Lampard has shared advice on getting through difficult patches of form.
The Lions head coach worked under the former England international at Chelsea and Everton when Lampard managed at those clubs
In his first managerial position, the 45-year-old also led Derby County to the Championship play-off final earlier in his career.
Edwards maintains communication with his former supervisor, who has handled high-pressure situations in all of his previous positions.
After the Lions were held to a draw at The Den on Saturday due to a late penalty from Huddersfield Town, Millwall has now only won once in their previous 12 games.
After the game, when asked about the former Chelsea midfielder, Edwards responded, “I probably speak to Frank every few days.” We consider Frank’s individual experience. He has experience managing in the Championship and can attest to the difficulty and unpredictability of the league.
“I believe he was telling me that, with nine games remaining in the Derby season, they were going through a difficult moment where it seemed impossible to see the bright side. Nine games later, they found themselves in the playoff championship game.
“I can also think back to our time together at Everton when I was aware of the times when certain games turned into what some people considered to be must-wins or should-wins. Occasionally, it heightens the tension in the game, which may have an impact on performance. When I was a player at Everton, we would start giving up points in games that everyone thought we should win, and then we would go on to defeat Chelsea and Manchester United.
“You cannot be pulled into an emotional rollercoaster where you become overly reactive after every game and worry excessively about the outcome. All you need to do is maintain your composure, stick together, and keep pursuing your idea.
“In particular, when it seems like nothing is working for you and our performance feels far from what I witnessed at Hillsborough [when Millwall won 4-0 last month], Frank was just providing that comfort that if you do stick with what you’re doing, things can quickly turn around and you can find yourself in a position where you’re playing well and challenging to play against.”
The Lions travel to Stoke City on Saturday to play another team that is just above them and has one more point after facing Huddersfield, who were one spot below them in the table and on the same number of points before kickoff.
