Millwall caretaker manager analyses ‘disappointing’ home form and the atmosphere at The Den following Southampton defeat
Ryan Fraser’s late goal condemned Millwall to further suffering at home.
Following the most recent depressing outcome, ADAM Barrett states that Millwall is eager to improve their “extremely disappointing” home record.
Southampton overcame Millwall late yesterday at The Den, leaving Millwall with six home losses out of nine in all competitions.
The biggest scoreline came against Reading when the Lions lost 4-0 in the Carabao Cup in August, while they have also fallen to 3-0 losses to both Leeds United and Swansea City.
In yesterday’s second league match of the season, Bristol City also triumphed 1-0 late, marking the second occasion this season that an away team has done so.
Barrett remarked of the home form, “It’s been really disappointing.” We need to get better at that, and today, against one of the best teams in the division, I thought we played a lot of good football. Wes Harding gave us a first-half goal that left you wondering, “If that goes in, can it change it?”
“I felt the fans were rooting for the players the entire game, and I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. However, it is imperative that we restore The Den’s reputation as a very challenging place to come. We just have to keep working hard, keep believing, keep trying to push forward and improve.
“There was lots of good stuff and we tried to start well second half which is what we did do and it’s just hard maintaining it for as long against these top teams. If you start jumping out, trying to press and you get it wrong, then they start opening you up. And the game kind of swung a little bit and they have dangerous players when it does that.
