The Lions could make summer investments in the strike force because it has been their area of greatest struggle this season.
After being promoted from League One in 2017, Millwall has been a comfortable Championship team, save for the 2018–19 season, when the Lions narrowly avoided relegation by four points.
Ever since, the London team has consistently finished in the top half of the Championship table at the end of the season, but this year they are unintentionally involved in a relegation battle.
But Neil Harris’s reappointment as head coach on February 21 appears to be the move that will help the Lions win safety.
The recent loss to Leeds United is perhaps a better reflection of the calibre of the Whites than it is of the Lions’ current state. However, recent victories over Southampton, Watford, Blackburn Rovers, and Birmingham City have demonstrated that Harris is getting the best out of the current squad in a way that former manager Joe Edwards never managed.
In order to have a stronger season in 2024–2025, the South Bermondsey team will need to make changes during the summer transfer window, assuming Harris is able to contribute to his club’s Championship status.
Being among the lowest scoring teams in the second division, Millwall’s main problems this season have been in front of goal; therefore, they should make some summertime investments in this area.
Over the summer, the team will not only bring in new players but also let some go, but these moves would create the ideal transfer window for the group from The Den.
Jamie Reid
Reid, a striker for Stevenage, is among the top scorers in League One this year, and his outstanding play earned him a spot in Northern Ireland’s March international lineup.
Reid scored ten goals the previous season to help Steve Evans’ team win promotion from League Two, and he is expected to double that total this season.
Reid scored eighteen goals for Torquay United in the 2019–20 National League season, and he has since made a name for himself as a goal scorer in the Football League.
The 29-year-old is having a successful season in League One, and his most recent call-up to the national team may suggest that it’s time to give the former Exeter City striker a chance to establish himself in the Championship.
Given their struggles in front of goal in 2023–24, Millwall might be the ideal team for Reid to join. The Northern Ireland international would have plenty of playing time at the Den.
In: Lasse Sorensen
Like Stevenage, Lincoln City is having a great League One season and is definitely in the running for the play-offs, thanks in large part to the efforts of Lasse Sorensen, a former player for MK Dons and Stoke.
The former Denmark youth international is a versatile player who can play as a wide midfielder, wing-back, or full-back. This season, he has contributed a lot of goals.
A player like Sorensen would be a great fit for a Championship team like the Lions because of these attributes, and he might be a realistic addition if the Imps are unable to get promoted to the second division.
In addition, the Lions would gain from Sorensen’s tendency to miss few games, which makes him a very dependable asset for the Imps.
In: Will Lankshear
The young Tottenham Hotspur player has played at the under-19 level for England and is among the top scorers in the Premier League 2 (under-21 division).
The 18-year-old played youth football for both Sheffield United and Arsenal before joining Spurs in 2022. Ange Postecoglou may be open to allowing his kid to sign with the Lions on loan so he can experience senior football.
Given that Japhet Tanganga, who joined The Den on loan from North London during the January transfer window, is currently playing regularly, Spurs might be happy to allow Lankshear to join the Lions on loan.
In: Femi Azeez
Azeez has been Reading’s bright spot this season and has demonstrated that he is capable of both creating and scoring goals, even in the face of all of the team’s financial off-field problems and subsequent point deductions.
Due to his outstanding play this season, there is a chance that Azeez will leave Berkshire this summer, regardless of how quickly the Royals’ financial situation is resolved.
Given Harris’ limited options in that area, Millwall could use a player with the kind of creative edge Azeez flaunts widely to increase their output in front of goal.
Out: Connal Trueman
The Lions will need to let go of some players in addition to adding some new players to the Den in the summer. Connal Trueman, who joined the team in 2022 but did not play a single game in his debut season, would be the ideal departure.
The 2023–24 season has seen the custodian struggle to play meaningful minutes, so a sale might be the best course of action in this case for both the player and his team.
Although Trueman has a contract with the Den through 2025, his lack of playing time will undoubtedly make the 27-year-old push for a departure from the Lions in the summer.
