Tottenham News has been informed that Millwall plans to extend Japhet Tanganga’s stay at The Den permanently this summer.
Tanganga is currently on loan with the Lions, playing football in the Championship.
Tanganga was sent on loan to Bundesliga team FC Augsburg at the start of the 2022–23 season after playing very little for Spurs during the previous campaign, totaling just seven appearances across all competitions for the North London team.
Tanganga was loaned to Millwall in January after failing to play a minute of football during his time in Germany. After a challenging start, he has made 10 appearances for Millwall and has looked impressive in recent weeks. Tanganga was brought back to Tottenham in January.
Tanganga’s North London contract is set to expire this summer, but Tottenham has the option to extend it by one year, which could mean that Daniel Levy is able to resell the academy graduate for a healthy profit.
Could Millwall sign Japhet Tanganga from Tottenham permanently?
Tottenham News has learned from a recruitment source close to Millwall that if Spurs exercise the option to extend Tanganga’s contract until 2026, the Lions will attempt to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent basis.
According to Tottenham News, Millwall may be able to afford Tanganga’s signing fee as it is not considered to be “excessively large.”
The East London team’s ability to sign Tanganga will probably depend on whether they can avoid dropping to EFL League One. At the moment, they are four points clear of the relegation zone in the Championship, and they are currently ranked 16th.
Tanganga came through the Spurs academy’s youth ranks and made his debut in the first team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He has made 50 appearances for his boyhood club to date, contributing one assist, and has already made two appearances for England’s Under-21 team.
