suspension stands after Millwall’s appeal is rejected’

The Lions were hoping to get the controversial decision overturned but were unsuccessful

Referee Dean Whitestone gave the midfielder a straight red card last night for tackling Norwich’s Jonathan Rowe on the halfway line. Before Saville took him out, the 20-year-old had been tearing up the counterattack.

Although Millwall managed to win 1-0, they will now be without their key midfield player for the FA Cup third-round match against Leicester City in between and league matches against Bristol City and Middlesborough the following month.

Due to his suspension and Casper De Norre’s ongoing injury absence, Millwall will be without two of their best midfield players for a portion of January.

Saville had received five yellow cards in different games earlier this month, so he was unable to travel to Cardiff City on the road.

Saville was sent off for the first time for Millwall in 174 games played, and it was only his second red card in 451 games played for various teams during his professional career.

It also ended the Lions’ incredible 141-game stretch without a red card in Championship games, a run that began in January 2021 following Murray Wallace’s sending off in a 2-1 home defeat to Coventry City.
