The Dons have dropped six of their nine away games since the start of the season, including a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of previous manager Graham Alexander’s Bradford City, a 3-0 loss to struggling Doncaster Rovers, and a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of promotion contenders Stockport County on Saturday. Together with 1-0 losses to teams like Barrow, AFC Wimbledon, and Grimsby, the Dons’ chances of earning automatic promotion have significantly decreased.
Despite this, the Dons, led by Mike Williamson, have the best home record in the division, having only suffered one home loss this season.
With three away games left this season, Gilbey acknowledged that the team’s road form has been a major worry.
“It’s quite concerning,” he said. “We cannot simply continue to dominate teams at home and then go on the road and be so simple to defeat.
“We may play incredibly well for twenty-five minutes, but then we can be easily outplayed and lose so easily. That is something we must address.
“Repeatedly leaving home and failing to return gets you nowhere you want to go. It doesn’t take place. We’ll watch it again and take note of what needs to be addressed.
