captain Farrend Rawson gets response on his take over call.

After Morecambe’s League Two team lost three points, captain Farrend Rawson has urged owner Jason Whittingham to sell the team.

The club failed to pay players on time, and the EFL withheld the points on Thursday for not following a decision that was reached and enforced in August 2023.

Whittingham faces a $10,000 fine.

“My advice would be to let go if it no longer makes sense and your heart isn’t in it,” Rawson stated to BBC Radio Lancashire.

“He’s where he is because he’s performed well, but it would be simpler if someone could step in and give the boys an opportunity to grow and develop.

“On the pitch we’ve just fallen short but for the club to grow and sustain I think the owner needs to make the right decision.”

“You’re seeing it too often in the Football League and higher,” he continued. The people who are impacted are good clubs with a good fan base and community.

“Other people suffer when the highest decisions are made incorrectly. For this club to take off or even just continue on a regular basis, something has to change.

The club’s owners, Whittingham and Colin Goldring, resigned from the board and listed Morecambe for sale in September 2022.

The Shrimps fell from 12th to 14th place due to the points deduction, effectively ending their slim chances of challenging for a postseason spot.

After spending almost two years with the Lancashire team, defenseman Rawson claimed he had grown accustomed to dealing with off-field issues.

“Being honest I think it’s a shambles,” he stated.

“I believe we have never gone more than six months without something coming up during my nearly two years at this club.

“On behalf of the boys, the staff, and myself, all I can say is that we’re disappointed, frustrated, and irritated. This season, we’ve sacrificed everything to try and accomplish something exceptional, but those in higher positions have taken it away from us.

Things shouldn’t be this way. It ought not to occur.

Frustrated Shrimps look to stop Hatters promotion party

On Saturday, Morecambe travels to Stockport County, who are currently atop the table. A draw would guarantee the Hatters’ promotion to League One.

According to Rawson, the game might invigorate the team as they aim to close the season out on a high note.

“We are working on a project we love and we have a job to complete. It’s not the fans’ fault; the huge thing is a matter of pride. Because of what is happening outside the club or at the top of the club, which is beyond our control, we shouldn’t be going out there and not trying,” he stated.

“What a contest. They deserve all the credit for their outstanding performance this season. Our goal in going there is to break up the party.

“These guys are fighters, and we’ll give it our all.” It’s worth a try. This game this weekend is actually a good thing because it will allow us to vent our frustrations.”
