Morecambe boss verdict for battle against Colchester United…..

Ged Brannan has warned Morecambe’s players will face a stern examination tomorrow when Colchester United visit the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

The Shrimps aim to build on their victory over MK Dons the previous weekend by taking on Colchester, a team five points above the relegation zone and currently occupying third place in League Two.

After taking over earlier this month, Danny and Nicky Cowley drew their opening two games against Bradford City and Swindon Town.

The U’s have had three different management teams this season: Ben Garner, Matthew Etherington, and now the Cowleys.

They are using a different strategy than their predecessor and have signed three players during their hectic transfer window thus far.

When asked what modifications he had identified, Brannan replied, “It won’t be the same as the game last week.”

“After watching the recordings, we can see that they have completely transformed their style of play; this is a very different kind of football.

“They have some talented players joining, so it will undoubtedly be challenging.”

After Tuesday’s home game against Crewe Alexandra was postponed, Morecambe at least benefited from having a free midweek.

Significant rainfall due to Storm Brannan was unhappy but yet philosophical when he realised that Jocelyn meant a sodden pitch and a night off.

“The game being off the other day was a disappointment,” he said.

“It was very terrible up here, to be honest, but you can’t do anything about the weather. Confidence was flying.

“Considering the weather, the pitch isn’t too bad right now, but we had two home games coming up, and six points from those games would have been fantastic.”

Charlie Brown, who scored the winner against MK Dons to make it goals in three straight games, was one player who would have hoped that Tuesday’s game proceeded.

The 24-year-old, who had recently signed with Stadium MK in lieu of newcomer Ged Garner, equalised against Mansfield Town and then produced an incredible shot.

After making three of his nine appearances overall, Brannan acknowledged he was a candidate for a starting position on Saturday.

“I hope he scores another one like that on Saturday!” the manager exclaimed.

“That was an excellent goal, and he should now be in the starting lineup.”
