Morecambe manager pleased with their window shopping send message to fans’

Morecambe boss Ged Brannan believes the club has had a positive transfer window despite having to replace a quarter of his squad.

Six players left the Shrimps during the winter window when Adam Mayor was sold to Millwall and loanees Eli King, James Connolly, Tom Bloxham, Michael Mellon, and Ethan Walker left.

Archie Mair, Kayden Harrack, Nelson Khumbeni, Joe Adams, Brandon Barker, Gwion Edwards, Ged Garner, and Julian Larsson were the eight players who left the team, either on a permanent or loan basis.

When asked on deadline day how he assessed Morecambe’s window, Brannan responded: “I think we’ve done really well to be honest.

“We have added guys that are on par with the departing players, if not superior.

Regarding Adam, we were all aware that he was being pursued, and I had a sneaking suspicion that this would happen.

It’s a significant loss for us. Though most teams, like Morecambe, must sell in order to go on, I would have like to keep him.

“Our goal is to complete one per season, which is why Fitzy, the senior professional development coach and first team member David Fitzgerald, has joined us, is to help close that gap.”

In addition to managing matches and working to bolster his coaching staff, Brannan engaged in a month of backroom dealings.

In light of this, he would have been excused for feeling relieved that the window has closed and that he can now concentrate on trying to win games and move Morecambe up the League Two standings.

On second thought, though, the Shrimps manager acknowledged that he had enjoyed it.

Considering that it was my first window, he continued, “I really enjoyed it.”

“It’s been a real experience, and it was good that players were in early.”
