Morecambe players can’t keep playing catch-up

Morecambe’s bad start tothe ir match against Grimsby Town on Saturday, according to Ged Brannan, cost them the three points.

At the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, the teams drew 1-1, with the Shrimps once again giving up the first goal.

After eighty seconds, they were behind when Danny Rose, the leading scorer for Grimsby, scored his 14th goal of the season while going uncontested in the area.

After then, the players under Brannan had an even harder task ahead of them until Jordan Slew tied the score eight minutes into the second half.

Before their trip to third-place Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, Morecambe was in 10th place in League Two, three points outside of the play-offs, thanks to his fifth goal of the year.

Both teams had opportunities to win it; in extra time, Grimsby’s Gavan Holohan collected the ball over from two yards out after Jordy Hiwula had wasted one on his Shrimps debut.

“It was a tough one to take really because it was criminal to give a player like that (Rose) so much space in the box like we did,” stated Brannan in the aftermath.
“We can’t expect to consistently win games after giving up early goals this season; we have been conceding goals far too frequently.”

“I don’t blame the guys for their attempts to get back into the game—some of our play after a shaky start was fantastic—but you can’t consistently put yourself under pressure every single week.

While there were many good things, we were unable to score the second goal, and in the end, they came very close to winning.

“We will keep pushing that table up because, in the end, it is a step in the right direction.”
