Morecambe Set To Make First Summer Signing

The Shrimps ended the season with only five players contracted to the club for 2024/25 after posting a seven-figure loss over the previous financial year. The club had also received a three-point deduction for breaches of the EFL’s financial rules.

Derek Adams, who left the club in the middle of last season to join Scottish Premiership side Ross County, has returned to Lancashire to retake the helm of the club after Ged Brannan opted to join the coaching staff at Accrington Stanley.

According to reports, the Scottish manager is set to enter the transfer market to sign an out-of-contract player as the rebuild of the team commences.

Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke has revealed that Tranmere Rovers midfielder Paul Lewis will be joining Morecambe on a free transfer. The former Cambridge United player rejoined the Birkenhead club in 2022 but struggled for game time under Nigel Adkins.

The 29-year-old made 14 appearances in the league last season, failing to register a goal or assist. His contract at Prenton Park is set to expire at the end of this month.

Having appeared for England’s C team in 2015, Lewis is a veteran of the fourth tier, also playing for Northampton Town for one season for the Cobblers’ first season back in the league.
