Reason behind morecambe manager wanting to leave*

Ged Brannan has challenged Morecambe’s players to make home advantage count as they return to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium tomorrow.

After three straight away games in the previous two weeks, they play host to Grimsby Town.

Their most recent setback came on Tuesday when they lost 3-0 at Walsall, snapping a four-game winning streak that had moved them to within one point of the League Two play-off spots.

The Grimsby club, who are now in third place and six points above the drop zone, will be faced by the 11th-placed Shrimps.

In their last two games, they have given up eight goals, and they have only won one of their previous ten games.

“We’re always looking to beat anyone at home,” stated Brannan.

“Every home game is crucial for us to win with three points, but the opposition will be tougher than most anticipate.

They’re not as awful as people have been making them out to be, based on what I’ve seen them play.

“We have a lot of points to play for and a long way to go, but if we can put together a run, we can get away from that group of clubs.”

Both Farrend Rawson and Gwion Edwards are vying for starting roles, and Ged Garner might make a comeback after missing the midweek loss.

It will be the player’s responsibility to put Morecambe ahead of the game tomorrow.
Even though they have only dropped two of their nine league games in 2024, the players have had to demonstrate their moral fibre during this run.

The only other occasion since Boxing Day that the Shrimps have opened a game with a goal is when they defeated Sutton United 1-0 two weeks ago.

The battling attitude of his players is a double-edged sword, as Brannan admitted.

“We hadn’t come back to win in the league either, until MK Dons six or seven games ago,” he stated.

“It demonstrates the players’ excellent character, but to be very honest, I wish we hadn’t kept placing ourselves in situations where it was required!

“We have to be at the top of our game from the first whistle, but players don’t intentionally go out to concede the first goal.”
