Robins hit back to down the Shrimps’

After defeating the Shrimps 3-1, Wrexham continued their push for promotion, remaining third in League Two, three points behind leaders Mansfield Town, level with second-place Stockport County, and two clear of fourth-place MK Dons.

Playoff contenders After Morecambe took the lead in the fourth minute, Wrexham found it difficult to stay in the match. However, James McClean’s equaliser gave the visitors a solid first-half finish.

Paul Mullin gave Wrexham the lead early in the second half, and Steven Fletcher’s late strike sealed three points for the home team, who had been reduced to ten men earlier in the half.

“Morecambe are a team on form, I think they got 20 points from their last 10 games and fancied their chances of getting in the play-offs,” Parkinson stated.

“It took us a little while to get going, and our start is going to knock anybody down.”

“It was one of the most obvious penalties you will ever likely see when James McClean was hauled down in the box, and we should have had one.

“However, it was an excellent goal. Mulls capitalised on the defender’s error and squared it, and James’ quickness to assist was outstanding in pulling us back into the contest.

All it did was raise us up. We appeared as though we would go for another goal because we needed it.

“We had the conditions in our favour in the first half and we stepped onto them really well in that last 20 minutes, but we kept the momentum going in the second period.”

Just four minutes after the half, Max Melbourne received a second yellow card for a foul on Ollie Palmer. Mullin, the team’s top scorer, promptly made it 2-1 from the penalty spot after David Tutonda handled Elliot Lee’s attempt in the area. It was Mullin’s 17th goal of the year.

With ten games remaining in the chase for a second consecutive promotion, Wrexham is in a strong position thanks to a late header from substitute Fletcher, who secured the points.

Parkinson was thrilled with the performance after a challenging beginning.

“Morecambe are a team who sit off the ball and look to counter-attack teams,” he stated. “They merely descended a little bit more when they were reduced to ten guys.

“After that, Mulls stuck it away, and I’m not sure what the youngster was doing, but the referee had no choice but to award the penalty.

“We were incredibly positive in everything we did and as the second half went on, we became better and better. Fletch then entered the game and won it for us.

“I was very pleased with everything about the display.”
