Shrimps complete courageous comeback at Crewe’

Elliott Nevitt gave Crewe the lead in the first half as the striker pounced on a rebound following an Archie Mair stop. A few minutes into the second half, Shilow Tracey’s hard shot gave the home team a two-goal lead.

Then things started to turn around. First, a low shot from Joe Adams slipped past the Crewe ‘keeper.’ Then, Adams was involved once more, this time his shot was saved and found its way to Jordan Slew, who levelled the score with his second goal in as many games. Captain Farrend Rawson completed the turnaround when he headed home a dangerous cross from Joel Senior.

Three minutes later, Morecambe got their first chance of the match when Joe Adams picked up the ball approximately 20 yards from goal and drove infield. Joel Senior’s run down the right side was discovered by the midfielder, and his effort narrowly missed the far post.

Crewe was able to take the lead in the game, but Charlie Kirk’s long-range attempt was unaffected by Archie Mair.

 

Adams had a fantastic start to the game, winning the ball in midfield once more and finding Ged Garner with a wonderful pass. But Garner’s left-footed effort missed the mark.

Kirk’s lofted through ball to Elliott Nevitt gave Crewe the lead, despite Morecambe having a solid start to the game. Archie Mair made a fantastic save on the attacker’s first header, but the goalie was powerless to save the rebound.

Rio Adebisi, who had been booked earlier in the first half, picked up a loose kick from Mair and attempted a dangerous shot that went just wide of the near post as the half came to an end.

Harvey Davies, the Crewe custodian, made a great save to deny Gwion Edwards’ low attempt from the edge of the box, giving the Shrimps one last opportunity before halftime.

From the first whistle, Crewe applied constant pressure. They increased their lead when Shilow Tracey drove infield and fired a shot that went close to the goal. Despite Mair’s best efforts, he was only able to parry the ball into the back of his net.

Nevitt attempted to score his second goal of the match, but his effort was blocked for a corner following a strong solo run.

In an attempt to get his team back into the game, Ged Brannan made several substitutions, and Jordy Hiwula, who replaced Gwion Edwards, almost immediately had an impact. Adams’ attempt was blocked after the attacker’s move down the left completed with a flawless cross to his feet. the line by the Crewe defence.

Just a few minutes later, though, Morecambe cut the lead in half as Max Melbourne’s cross put Adams in the exact same spot. This time, the midfielder’s effort went under Harvey Davies and across the goal line.

After gaining possession of the ball high up the pitch, the Shrimps persisted and within minutes were level. Adams took advantage of the opportunity to shoot low and hard towards the goal, but Davies was only able to parry it to the edge of the area where Jordan Slew, a substitute, was waiting to tie the score.

A Lewis Leigh free-kick appeared to be going into the back of the net, but Mair had to be quick to turn it away. Josh Austerfield, a former Morecambe loanee, then forced another save with a low effort.

But Morecambe’s momentum never wavered; after a free-kick, Joel Senior was set down on the right and whipped in a low cross behind the defence, which was finished by Shrimps skipper Farrend Rawson.

As Morcambe soaked up the pressure, Crewe huffed and puffed in an attempt to come back into the game. Courtney Baker-Richardson had a shot from thirty yards that Mair comfortably saved.

Crewe continued to press for an equaliser in the final eight minutes of play. Zac Williams had a great opportunity after a left-wing corner, but the defender missed the mark with his attempt.

In the 95th minute, Morecambe managed to hold onto their lead after a spectacular goalmouth scramble that saw Austerfield’s shot blocked by Bedeau and subsequently saved by Mair. Somehow, the rebound was also blocked on the line before to the crucial clearance occurring.
