While the New York Mets have not made any significant player moves this offseason, president of baseball operations David Stearns has made his imprint felt in other ways for those in non-front-facing roles.
According to The New York Post’s Mike Puma, Stearns fired several scouts and another left on his own.
Three veteran scouts – Joseph Kowal, Pat Jones and Eddie Bane – were fired this week by the Mets. A fourth, Chad MacDonald, stepped aside for personal reasons. Bane was in amateur scouting, the rest were in the pro scouting department.
Kowal held the title of senior advisor, pro player personnel, while Jones was a pro player evaluator and Bane a senior advisor, amateur scouting. MacDonald was also a pro player evaluator.
FIXING THE YANKEES:
Kowal has been with the Mets since 2016, starting as a professional scout, a title he held from 2008-16 with the Milwaukee Brewers, Stearns’ old team, according to his LinkedIn profile.
