Months after being sold by Newcastle United, former winger Allan Saint-Maximin has sent a fresh message to the team and its supporters.
This summer, Saint-Maximin sent a heartfelt farewell to Newcastle. The Frenchman, who spent £25 million joining Saudi Arabian team Al Ahli, was sold by the club in order to cash in on the situation.
It was sad to see him go, but it was an exit that Newcastle felt was necessary. Selling Saint-Maximin eased the club’s financial fair play concerns, and led to the Magpies signing Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento permanently.
Their arrivals have given Newcastle more depth, although that has since taken a hit. Barnes has suffered an injury, and will now be out of action until 2024.
Of course, he will not be involved against Burnley this weekend, who are a club that Saint-Maximin always played well against during his time on Tyneside. The 26-year-old scored two goals and provided three assists against the Clarets during his Toon career.
Allan Saint-Maximin says he misses Newcastle
One of his goals came inside an empty stadium, when he scored a spectacular solo strike during a 3-1 win against Burnley in October 2020.
Ahead of Newcastle’s game against the same opponents on Saturday, the club have shared a clip of Maxi’s stunning goal on their official Instagram account. The video prompted a reply from Saint-Maximin, who commented: “Miss you so much.”
Newcastle are not missing Saint-Maximin right now
Saint-Maximin is missing Newcastle, and there have been times this season that Newcastle have missed Saint-Maximin.
When the team was struggling, it would have been great to turn to him. His ability to dazzle and create something out of nothing would have given us a lift. However, performances have now improved and it is difficult to say that Newcastle are missing Saint-Maximin. Eddie Howe’s side are functioning without him, while Anthony Gordon is proving to be much more dangerous and consistent on that left wing. Toon fans will always love ASM and appreciate what he did for the club, but the decision to let him go this summer will prove to be the right one. Some will argue that it already has.
