Fabrizio Romano ‘confirms’ Newcastle United contract update after £60m ‘bombshell’ claim

Following rumors from Spain, the release clause position for Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United has been confirmed.

According to the Spanish publication Sport, Guimaraes’ contract contained a £60 million release clause that could only be activated by Barcelona. A new five-year contract with Newcastle was just signed by the Brazilian, and it is said to have a £100 million release clause.

Understand that Bruno Guimaraes’ new contract at Newcastle does not have a specific release clause for Barcelona or any other specific club, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media in response to the Spanish accusation.

“The only clause is valid for all the clubs and it’s £100m, as revealed in September. No other clauses, sources confirm.”

The new contract for Guimaraes at Newcastle extends through June 2028. Since his £40 million transfer from Lyon to The Magpies in January 2022, when he initially signed a four-and-a-half year contract, the 25-year-old midfielder has been a crucial member of the team.

He has made 67 appearances for the club across all leagues, scoring 11 goals, and is presently overseas on Brazil’s international duty.

Guimaraes said on the club website after learning of his new deal with Newcastle: “I’m really happy. Since my first day here, the fans have helped me feel at home, and I have never felt more appreciated.

“I love being here. It’s a place that I feel incredibly at home in, and I want to keep bringing joy to the fans and supporting the team’s success. There are no adequate words to express how delighted I am to be here, therefore that is my aim.

“I distinctly recall stating in my first interview that I aspired to represent this team in the Champions League, and here we are.

“The community now has newfound hope, and what we have accomplished for the team is incredible. I’m hoping that this can go on. What has occurred in my life over the past two years is fantastic.

In the Premier League, Guimaraes has drawn interest from teams like Chelsea and Liverpool, and he even acknowledged having “a conversation” with Real Madrid during the summer.

Later this week, the player will return to Newcastle in time for Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace (3:00 p.m. kickoff).
