Although Eddie Howe was considered a bit of a risk when he was appointed, he has done an amazing job at Newcastle since joining the team a few years ago.
After being demoted with Bournemouth, Howe had been out of the game for a while, and many people had doubts about his ability to play at the highest level.
At the time, Newcastle was being connected to several elite managers, most notably Unai Emery, but a radical solution was also taken into consideration.
In fact, John Terry has recently stated in an interview on the Obi One Podcast that he interviewed to be manager of Newcastle prior to Eddie Howe, but he fell well short of the qualifications to land the position.
“I believe to respond to your query. I applied to two or three jobs after leaving Villa. I went to many interviews, including one for Newcastle. I felt that those were very fantastic procedures because you could sit in those sessions and think, “I’m so wrong about this, I’m glad I missed that.” I considered going to League One as I was not going to secure a job in the Premier League or the Championship. Terry stated, “I applied for two jobs in League One, but I didn’t receive one of those jobs.
This could have been the beginning of Newcastle’s worst possible fate.
Terry’s managerial abilities are unclear, and based on his own confessions, it doesn’t seem like he had what it needed to lead a Premier League team at this point.
Remember that Newcastle was at the bottom of the Premier League standings when Howe took over, and the Magpies may have collapsed if it weren’t for his skill as a coach in turning things around almost away.
In a another universe, Newcastle may have really been relegated and Terry might have been employed.
