Priority target: Eddie Howe identifies dream new signing; he will join Newcastle for large fee

Eddie Howe wants Newcastle to sign dream target to replace Sandro Tonali

Is the player in question the ideal man to come in?

According to a recent transfer update, Eddie Howe has found his ideal candidate to take Sandro Tonali’s place at Newcastle United.

Ban Sandro Tonali
After losing 1-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week, the Magpies’ Premier League result on Saturday night was a 2-2 draw away to Wolves. It’s a weak justification, but there’s a case to be made that Tonali’s 10-month suspension from football for breaking betting regulations at AC Milan, before joining Newcastle in the summer transfer window, may have taken some of the team’s focus away.

This is a major setback for any Magpies supporters as the Italian will not be playing any more games for the rest of the season. The 23-year-old entered the game with the intention of making Howe’s team even more formidable, but now that he’s gone, they have to pretend he’s not even on the team for the time being.

As Newcastle looks to move on without their star summer signing, a number of players have been mentioned as possible replacements for Tonali during the January transfer window. In recent days, Kalvin Phillips, Ruben Neves, and N’Golo Kante have all been mentioned as targets for Newcastle. It appears that the player Howe would most like to see arrive is someone else at St James’, however, according to a new claim regarding their search for a new midfielder.

Eddie Howe wants Scott McTominay

According to a fresh transfer update from Calciomercato, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe wants to sign Scott McTominay, seeing the Manchester United midfielder as a “dream” signing and “the Magpies’ priority” to come in for Tonali. The Scot may have been in some good form recently, including scoring twice in a dramatic home win against Brentford earlier this month, and the update says he can leave Old Trafford for St James’ Park if a large offer comes in.

According to McTominay’s statistics, he has only made four starts in the Premier League this season, and players like Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, and Sofyan Amrabat have frequently been picked over him. It is simple to picture the 26-year-old fitting in well to Newcastle’s midfield and blending well with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. He is a box-to-box midfielder who mixes dynamism with a constant stream of end product, so he might be a solid addition in January.

During their time together at United, McTominay was even called a “special” signing by Jose Mourinho, who said the following about him:

“He’s a unique personality and character that a team needs during trying times. Do the other gamers I have think the same way? Not each one of them. Every individual is unique. Scott McTominay is a unique child who possesses remarkable qualities. He is brave, assertive in a constructive manner, and quite humble.”

Whether United would be willing to sell to a rival midway through the season remains to be seen, but at 26, he could be heading there just as his peak is arriving. If Howe wants him more than anyone, the manager should also be trusted.
