The shirt that Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff thought he had stolen from Kylian Mbappe really belonged to Kieran Trippier’s youngster.
For their first Champions League home game in 20 years, Newcastle welcomed French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain to a sold-out St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Although PSG entered the game as the favorite, they gave a terrible performance, and Newcastle destroyed the Paris club.
Goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Longstaff and Fabian Schar were enough to record a stunning 4-1 for the Magpies. Lucas Hernandez was the scorer for the visitors.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, local boy Longstaff revealed that he tried to get Mbappe’s shirt during the match.
He said: “I was blocking him from a goal-kick so I tried to get it for my little brother.
“So hopefully, I still get it!”
However, Mbappe’s shirt went to Trippier’s son after young Jacob walked past the TNT Sports panel with the Frenchman’s shirt wrapped around him.
Trippier revealed prior to the clash that his son is a huge fan of Mbappe and wanted to walk out with him.
TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand was heard saying: “You’ve walked away with Mbappe’s… Is that Mbappe’s shirt?”
Regarding Newcastle’s illustrious victory, Longstaff remarked: “I think we all understood as a group that it was going to be some atmosphere. It’s some night.
But I believe it is very weird that Dan Burn and I both scored on a night like tonight.
“Since the takeover, it’s been a terrific place to be,” he continued. “There were some who believed three years ago that we were certainly out the door and it was not a great place to be. The evening has been incredible, and I couldn’t be more proud to be from Newcastle.
“The semi-final held here last year was close, but this is a different level; this is the elite of the elite.”

Jamaal Lascelles, the captain of Newcastle United, acknowledged that he would only be open to trading shirts with Kylian Mbappe under one circumstance.

When pressed on swapping shirts if approached by Mbappe, Lascelles, replied: “If he [Mbappe] asks me? Yeah, when we get to the tunnel but on the pitch it’s just business.
“Kylian Mbappe is probably the best player in the world. We just need to be professional and that’s what we are. It’s just about getting the job done.”
Mbappe has established himself as one of the world’s best players in recent years, having netted 220 goals in 267 appearances for PSG since joining from AS Monaco in 2018.
Moreover, in the Champions League, he has scored some 35 goals in just 53 games, making him PSG’s main attacking threat in the game against Newcastle.
