While the Newcastle midfielder waits to hear about a lengthy ban for unlawful gambling, Eddie Howe disclosed that it was his decision to send Sandro Tonali performing the lap of honour in front of his teammates after the game.

The 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace may mark the 23-year-old’s final match at St. James’ Park until the next season since he is facing at least a one-year suspension from Italian authorities, which may start as early as this week.

After the game, Tonali was greeted with a raucous reception in the 69th minute and was once more overwhelmed by the affection of the home crowd.

Howe stated: “I wanted him to be at the front so he could see the love up close. It kind of came to me while we were walking.” So let me to express my sincere gratitude to everyone of our backers. It was an emotional and amazing reception at the conclusion.

“Sandro is going through a very emotional period, and the supporters responded as I had anticipated.” He’s going to feel so much better since I could feel the love between him and them.

“The most important thing is that he has the support of senior management and supporters, even though the hardest part is still ahead.”

“He really wanted to play and perform,” Howe continued. I could tell from his training that there was no choice for me to make, therefore I didn’t feel as though he wasn’t prepared to play football. He only needed to be introduced at the appropriate moment, and I felt he did a good job after he came on.

We can only hope that this will help him go on in his life. He is quite modest. Although the emotion is rarely visible on the outside, you know it exists within. He’s a private man who maintains order rather effectively. He’s undoubtedly greatly elevated by today.
