While Newcastle has spent heavily since Saudi Arabia entered the fray, the Magpies have consistently delivered on their promises.

The team was obliged to spend a lot of money to lure Alexander Isak away from Real Sociedad in 2022, but it quickly became evident that their large investment would pay off handsomely. Isak’s debut season was hampered by injury at firs

Isak has continued where he left off at the start of 2023/24, with six goals in seven Premier League appearances. His latest brace secured Newcastle a point away against West Ham, just days after their memorable European night against PSG.

However, Isak was ruled out of the West Ham game due to an injury.

Isak came ever so close to taking the game away from the Hammers on Sunday when he rounded Alphonse Areola after giving the visitors a 2-1 lead. But, his effort with his weaker left foot hit the post which kept West Ham’s deficit at one and the hosts would eventually score a late equaliser.

“I only really wanted to use him [Callum Wilson] in an emergency, but Alex signalled that he had to come off, so he was a natural replacement,” Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said after the game, adding that he has his “fingers crossed” that Isak is OK.

The striker is said to be suffering from a groyne problem, which led him to withdraw from Sweden’s October squad. “Alexander Isak leaves the men’s national team’s European Championship qualifying squad,” Sweden’s medical team reported after examining him.

Following an investigation by the country’s medical experts, it is now clear that Alexander Isak is no longer fit to play at the moment.

“The Newcastle striker arrived with an injury report from Sunday’s game against West Ham and was examined by the Swedish national team’s medical team on Monday.”

“After that, it is clear that Alexander Isak is not available for games next week and will miss the European Championship qualifier against Belgium next Monday,” Sweden said in a statement.

While this update was troubling, the most recent sources indicate that Isak is unlikely to miss much time owing to his groyne injury. In fact, there is hope that he will be available for Newcastle’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace on October 21.

Howe’s medical staff will continue to evaluate the striker once he returns to Tyneside.

There’s also a trip to improving Wolves on the horizon, as well as a Carabao Cup away day at Manchester United – they remain tough opposition despite their recent struggles under Erik ten Hag. But perhaps the most difficult game of all is against Arsenal on 4 November, when Mikel Arteta’s buoyant Gunners travel to St James’ Park looking to build on the momentum generated from their 1-0 win over champions Manchester City.
