Callum Wilson has disclosed that coming season, he will experiment with a unique celebration in an effort to prank one of his international colleagues.
Callum Wilson, a striker for Newcastle United, has admitted that if he scores this season against Tottenham Hotspur, he will imitate Bukayo Saka’s sarcastic celebration. In the North London derby on Sunday, Saka scored twice and celebrated by emulating ‘s darts move.
Although his first was subsequently ruled an own goal, Saka’s celebrations caught the attention of many watching on Sunday, including Wilson. Speaking on the Footballers Football Podcast, Wilson joked that he would replicate the celebration if he nets against Spurs this season, knowing it would wind-up his international teammate Maddison.
Wilson said: “For banter I might actually do his celebration as I know him and I might make it a running thing that if you score against Tottenham you have to do Madders’ celebration. It’ll wind him up for sure, especially as he had Newcastle and Tottenham [interest] and he chose them.
He could have been doing those assists up here instead! But for Alex, it might not have been me as I’ve been sitting on the bench for a long. I might perform his celebration for his successful darts, but we must keep it low-key.
Wilson scored twice against the Spurs in the previous season and has four goals so far this year. Maddison, meanwhile, has made a strong start in north London after the summer’s transfer rumors suggested he might head to Tyneside, scoring twice and setting up four other league goals for Spurs.
On the weekend of December 9, Newcastle and Tottenham will play in the capital, just a few days before the Magpies’ Champions League group stage match against AC Milan at St. James’ Park.
