Seven dead after week of ‘tragedy’ on Norfolk roads

There have been seven deaths from a series of serious collisions in Norfolk this week

On Norfolk’s roads, this has been an incredibly devastating week with seven catastrophic crashes and seven fatalities. The ages of the men and women who have died are diverse, with the youngest being in their 20s and the oldest being 92. At NorfolkLive, our hearts go out to the friends and family of those who have lost a loved one this week while driving.
Norfolk Police warned residents to exercise extra caution ahead of the cold snap since the temperature fell and there was a chance that the roads could become slick. Prior to the police statement, there had been three fatal collisions; however, they made it clear that there was no indication that any of the occurrences were related to one another or that inclement weather was the cause of any of the incidents.
On Friday, August , the first incident occurred on the A1075 Dereham Road near Shipdham. It was at 8:30 p.m. when police were summoned to reports of a two-vehicle collision. Tragically, the driver of the Ford, a man in his 40s, passed away at the site. There was a grey Ford Focus and a black Kia Rio involved. Three other persons from the Kia sustained minor injuries, while one person was hospitalised for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The second crash happened in Wisbech on the A47 when a man’s car struck a tree. A blue Audi S4 and a tree crashed at the roundabout at Elm High Road on Sunday, January 15, around 12:50 a.m. Regretfully, the vehicle’s driver,
Three persons died on the A47 near King’s Lynn on the same day. A white Vauxhall Mokka and a black BMW X5 collided close to the Constitution Hill roundabout in North Runcton about 7:40 p.m. on August 15. Paramedics pronounced all three of the Vauxhall Mokka’s occupants—two in their 40s and one in their 20s—dead.
A man in his 30s was taken into custody on Friday, August 16, on suspicion of causing death by reckless driving. Aurelijus Cielevicius, of King’s Lynn’s John Street, was then charged with three charges of death by hazardous driving the following day.
We also regretfully learnt this week that an elderly woman who was hit by a bus in Norwich’s downtown passed away in a hospital. The collision occurred on Wednesday morning, August 14, at 11:13 a.m. on St. Stephens Street at the intersection with Surrey Street. After being hit by a bus, a 92-year-old woman was brought to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with potentially fatal injuries. Sadly, on Friday, August 16, she passed away in the hospital.
