Northampton Town issues strong statement amid fleetwood threat..

Only once in 26 years have Northampton Town earned more than the 59 points they currently have at this level and Sampson says the players deserve a lot of credit.
“We set a target and we are delighted to have reached that target so soon,” he said. “The group has done really well, and I think we have surprised a few people along the way. It is a really good achievement but we are not finished yet and we want to put some more points on the board.
“Playing against teams fighting for their lives is never easy but that’s a tribute to the lads that we won both games against Port Vale and Carlisle without conceding. It will be another tough test at Fleetwood on Saturday but we will go there with confidence.

“That was the goal, and we had been playing pretty well at home against opponents in the bottom five. We examined the teams we believed we might face off against. It’s critical to focus on such matches in order to achieve some impressive outcomes, and we have done just that.

“Fleetwood is a formidable opponent with a number of excellent players. They will be battling hard, therefore we will need to go there and maintain our high standards while acting professionally, powerfully, and steadily. Even though they haven’t had the season they would have liked, they still have some of the best League One players, so we will need to play at our best to win.”
