In an interview with Sky Sports, Norwich City midfielder Gabriel Sara acknowledged that his team must perform at its best to defeat Ipswich Town, given the Tractor Boys’ stellar start to the campaign.
Even though Ipswich has been playing well and may have had an even better season than Leicester City given that the Foxes were only promoted from League One a few months ago, Ipswich has been competitive all season long.
They are well-positioned to enter the Premier League, since they are now in the automatic promotion zone, but they cannot afford to take their success for granted because Leeds United is also a frequent winner.
Norwich, meanwhile, have been disappointing for a chunk of this campaign and at one point, it looked as though David Wagner was going to be sacked after a string of poor results.
Their rivals Ipswich seem destined to enjoy a much better season than them and that will be very painful for the Canaries after being above them in the football pyramid for a number of years.
There were even two divisions between the two teams at one point, with Norwich previously in the top flight.
Tomorrow, the arch-rivals face each other in the early kick-off at Portman Road, with Kieran McKenna’s side the clear favourites to secure all three points.
Gabriel Sara on Ipswich Town:
It could be argued that the form book goes out of the window during a derby – but Sara knows how good his side will need to be to secure three points in Suffolk.
He said: “I can’t wait for the atmosphere.
“I’m quite enthusiastic for this game because I’ve heard so much about it. Many of the fans I’ve met in the city or after games have stressed how crucial it is. Derby races are very significant worldwide.
In Brazil, there’s a proverb that says you just win in a derby—you never lose or draw. That’s how we’re approaching this game. Ipswich has had a fantastic season thus far, so we know what we need to do and how well we need to play.”
Prediction for Norwich City vs. Ipswich Town
It appears likely that Ipswich will prevail on paper.
Although Norwich has a strong team, the Tractor Boys are at home and are playing better.
It would be hard to see them losing with this.
Both sides will probably give it their all, thus a tie is conceivable. Wagner’s team is so good that you can never write them off.
However, a close victory at home appears inevitable in this match.
