David Wagner statement following Norwich City sacking

The former Canaries boss has this morning released a statement reflecting on his time at Carrow Road.

Wagner said in a statement released this morning through the League Managers’ Association: “I’d want to take this opportunity to wish Norwich City Football Club the best of luck in the future and to thank Delia, Michael, and Mark for their support over a very difficult season and a half.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to return to English football and coach a team with such a rich history and people. I’ve enjoyed my time in Norfolk, getting to know the locals and everyone who supports the club.

“When Christoph and I joined, we were hopeful that we could assist the club contend for promotion, and while we are saddened by the nature of the result against Leeds, we are also quite proud of the hard work work that everyone at Norwich City has put into the season to reach the play-off semi-finals in such a competitive league.

Although I am disappointed to be leaving a club with so much promise, I appreciate the club’s decision to proceed in a different route without Christoph and myself.

“I’d like to thank the players and staff who have done so well during my time at Norwich City.” The fans have also been tremendously supportive of the team, and while we did not earn promotion this season, I am hopeful that the club will return to the Premier League shortly.”
