Ed Aarons reports for The Guardian that Arsenal are expecting interest in Mikel Arteta’s assistant Carlos Cuesta from Norwich City and other Championship teams at the end of the season.
Being considered as one of the top young coaches in the world, Cuesta might be persuaded to accept his first managerial position.
The fact that Ben Knapper, Norwich City’s sporting director, was previously Arsenal’s loan manager strengthens the connection even further.
Norwich City’s current boss David Wagner is having a mixed season with the club, but The Guardian report that Cuesta is only likely to consider a move at the end of the season.
Even then, it’s said that Arsenal will rebuff any summer advances for Cuesta.
Cuesta is not Arteta’s lone assistant; in the dugout, the manager of Arsenal is supported by a group of employees.
Along with Nicolas Jover handling set pieces and Inaki Cana and Terry Mason coaching goalkeeping, Albert Stuivenberg and Miguel Molina support Arteta.
Cuesta is still highly regarded, and despite his young age of 28 he has already worked for Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal.
Whether Norwich City is successful in their planned summer strategy or not, Arteta’s assistant seems to have a bright future in football.
