Canaries TV talked with head coach David Wagner after the team’s 3-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road.
Early on, Norwich was behind 2-0, and Wagner claims they never got back up from those early deficits.
“We played a really good opening quarter of the match. We missed opportunities and made some excellent turnovers up top,” he stated.
“We were behind 2-0 after we mishandled our press and suffered the consequences. We had a lot of turnovers with no obvious way out of such circumstances, and they handled it better.”
“We let up a goal from a transition from a set-piece that we had, and the second half got off to a really bad start with that. We need to handle this problem much more skillfully, accept accountability, and become more aware of our shortcomings.”
Even though the team was three goals behind, the head coach commended the team’s effort and determination to play the game out.
Many opportunities presented themselves, but they were unsuccessful until Gabriel Sara’s late goal proved to be a consolation.
“I can’t be upset with the effort because the guys continued to try until the very end. They truly intended to make a difference, but since they lost, it is evident that their efforts were insufficient. As the manager, it is my obligation to accept accountability,” Wagner continued.
“Players made an effort. Today, we weren’t clinical; instead, we generated enough chances to score many goals. We are in a terrible run, and it damages everyone.
“We made opportunities and attacked very effectively after the red card and replacements. With the exception of the final ten minutes, we played an overload well but without being clinical in such circumstances; we needed to score sooner to instill more confidence and vigour. The harder it was, the longer it took.”
