Why Ben Knapper is keeping faith in City boss David Wagner*

Norwich City sporting director Ben Knapper spoke to local media at Colney on Wednesday morning.

Ben Knapper, who feels that David Wagner has improved Norwich City, has disclosed that he always intended to give the German some time.

Highlighting Knapper’s arrival in November was Wagner’s terrible run of play and mounting outside pressure due to a string of seven losses in nine games.

Although Knapper was fully aware of the circumstances for his early arrival at Colney, he has proceeded cautiously in evaluating the situation and initiating the Canaries’ grand plan.

After speaking with Wagner on a wide range of subjects, the newly appointed City football manager feels that their efforts and problem-solving skills are starting to pay off, as seen by a recent improvement in performances and results.

“We speak all the time and every day, so there were always conversations happening on all sorts of aspects, whether it is squad planning or team performance,” Knapper stated.

“When I first walked in the door, the playing and coaching staff’s chemistry, the amount of effort being done, and the proactive attitude to problem-solving impressed me.

“Some of the realities of where we were having difficulties were acknowledged.

There were constant talks around that, but it always seemed to me that people were looking for answers. We don’t feel like we’re home and dry, but from where we were, a lot of excellent work had been done.

“It’s a testament to those conversations and the actions off the back of them.”

Knapper has remained steadfast and made an effort to ignore the clamour for Wagner’s dismissal that surfaced earlier in the season.

The manager of City has stated how he will approach making the important choices throughout his time there and is determined to only make choices that will help the team in the medium to long run.

“The sporting director’s job is to maintain composure, apply reason, and resist being swayed by rumours or background chatter.

You need to consider it and make judgements that are rational and in the best interests of the club. Throughout my career, it has always been how I have worked, and of course, I was conscious of the cacophony. It might be heard.

“I was in the stands and listening, and you see things in the media as well that is hard to get away from at times,” he stated.

I was always certain on the fact that taking my time to consider my options is the best course of action for me when making decisions.

“That is consistent with the way I have always worked throughout my career.”
