The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as there is uncertainty over the future of loanee Nuno Tavares amid a lack of game time
Nottingham Forest could be impacted by reported interest in loanee Nuno Tavares with French side Marseille ‘considering’ a move for the full-back.
The defender is currently on loan at the City Ground, having signed until the end of the season back in the summer. He has though struggled for game time under both Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo.
Tavares has appeared in five games this season, in all competitions. He hasn’t played in the Premier League since September, when he played 39 minutes in a 2-0 loss to Manchester City.
The lack of game time has sparked speculation about his future. According to L’Equipe, Marseille are ‘considering’ a move for Tavares before the transfer window closes. The left-back spent the 2022/23 season on loan with the French club, where he appeared in 39 games and scored six goals.
The rumoured interest will force Arsenal to make a choice on the full-back. If they want to give the player more playing time, they may choose to recall him from his loan spell at City Ground.
He is expected to play for Marseille following the winter departure of former Forest loanee Renan Lodi. The Brazilian spent last season on loan with Forest before moving to Marseille in the summer; after only six months, he has now joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
Tavares has previously been linked with an early exit from Forest and is thought to be willing to shorten his loan period. The loan agreement does include possibilities to make the deal permanent in the summer, but that is unlikely unless his playing time significantly rises under Nuno.
