Henri Lansbury, a former midfielder for Nottingham Forest, disclosed that he defeated testicular cancer when he was a member of the team.
Between 2012 and 2017, the 33-year-old played football for Forest. He just announced his retirement from professional football. He has disclosed about a health concern he experienced throughout his 150 outings for the team.
After exercising at Forest, Lansbury noticed a bump on his testicle while taking a shower. Before his summer vacation, he had a surgery to remove the malignancy after having it checked out.
Speaking about his experience in an interview with Sky Sports, Lansbury detailed the steps he took and how the Forest club doctor assisted him due to a lengthy wait at the nearby hospital.
“I was just in the shower after training one day, was having a feel and washing myself, and I felt a lump,” said Lansbury. “I assumed that the little, pea-sized lump would go gone with time.
“After a few months, it remained in place. We had broken up for the summer and were off on vacation, but for a few months I was living a nightmare, trying to handle things on my own without informing anybody. It came to the point where I felt like I needed to visit someone in order to get assistance.
“I just went to the nearby hospital to see if I could get it l
ooked out, first. They stated that there is a few-week lead time, and as I was intending to depart on vacation, I didn’t want to leave it behind.
“I had to call the club and request assistance after that. They connected me with someone so I could go have a look at it. After my scan, he remarked, “Okay, we’ll get back to you with the results in a little while.”
‘Can you go and pack a suitcase, you’re going back in for the operation tonight,’ the Nottingham Forest doctor contacted me as I was leaving to get in my car. Although I thought this was a little too quick, I was relieved to get it out.”
