If it wasn’t already obvious, a Sky Germany report confirms it: Gio Reyna will not stay at Nottingham Forest after this season.
The United States men’s national team star has had a tough half-season loan in the Premier League, playing little for Forest after signing from Borussia Dortmund in midseason.
Reyna has featured in ten games for Forest, starting twice, and has played a total of 230 minutes.
The 21-year-old’s loan did not include a buy option, although Forest could have made an offer for the midfielder at the end of the season.
According to Sky, the Premier League team has unsurprisingly determined that Reyna has “no future” with them. The 21-year-old will return to Dortmund following this weekend’s season finale.
After returning to Germany, Reyna will confront an uncertain future. According to Sky, Reyna may be loaned out again next season. This is not surprising given that Edin Terzić, who does not rank Reyna highly, is set to return after leading Dortmund to the Champions League final.
Reyna has had a relatively unsuccessful season, with his total minutes between Dortmund and Forest still falling short of 600.
With neither club looking to be a particularly great fit for Reyna at this point, the USMNT midfielder faces a crucial summer ahead.
