Inspired by the World Cup, Nottingham Forest ‘draws up plans’ to increase City Ground capacity.

Nottingham Forest is eager to install temporary more seating at the City Ground, according to the most recent news from NottinghamshireLive.

According to reports, Nottingham Forest has plans to utilise the Stadium 974 from the Qatar World Cup as inspiration to raise the capacity of the City Ground over 30,000.

The team plans to construct a makeshift seating area atop shipping containers, modelling it after the ones seen at Stadium 974. The Athletic reports that plans are in the works to replace the existing Trent End stadium with a new one inspired by the Doha World Cup stadium.

Using 974 repurposed shipping containers, the stadium was constructed. Plans are reportedly at their “early stage,” nevertheless, and the commencement date of the development has not yet been decided.

Having said that, it is anticipated that no planning approv

al would be needed, and construction may start before Christmas. When Forest’s hierarchy looked for methods to increase the capacity over 30,000, they had pencilled in this notion at the beginning of the season.

But Tom Cartledge, the recently appointed chairman of Forest, saw an opportunity to add more seats and was inspired by the Stadium 974 project, which would add 500 more seats for spectators.

However, the club’s intentions to expand its capacity were postponed after they were first revealed in February 2019. Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of the Reds, is hopeful that the new chairman would expedite the plans to increase seating to 35,000.

That would entail demolishing the Peter Taylor stand and erecting a sizable building in its place.

The Premier League game versus Arsenal in the previous season had the largest crowd for Forest. The Gunners were defeated 1-0 by Steve Cooper’s team in front of 29,514 spectators. There are presently 30,445 spaces available in the City Ground.
