Hackney, a graduate of Middlesbrough Academy, has advanced significantly in the past year or so. Before Michael Carrick joined the team, the midfielder for Boro was considered a bright future prospect; however, he has since excelled.
The 21-year-old is now a regular for England’s U21 team and has emerged as one of the Championship’s top midfielders. There have previously been reports of interest, and as January draws closer, new claims are now being made.
Reporter Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon, claims that Scott Wilson, the head of Nottingham Forest, has been closely monitoring Hackney. Most recently, Wilson took advantage of the opportunity to “update” Hackney’s file while he was playing for the England Young Lions.
Hackney signed new terms earlier this year, and he is currently under contract with Middlesbrough through the summer of 2027.
After almost a year of consistent Middlesbrough attendance, Hackney has cemented himself as a fixture in the park. He has made 61 appearances in the first team for Boro, contributing five assists and four goals during that time.
The importance of Hackney to Carrick’s Middlesbrough team cannot be overstated, and as a team with goals of its own, they will be committed to keeping him around for a while. He is, nevertheless, steadily improving, and you would expect Boro’s star midfield player to succeed without them if they are not to make it to the Premier League very soon.
But until then, Hackney’s entire attention will be on improving at Middlesbrough and supporting their push for promotion. It appears Nottingham Forest will be closely monitoring the situation at all times.
