Martin O’Neill, a former manager of Nottingham Forest and legend, has discussed Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis following his dismissal in 2019.
After leading the Reds for 19 games in 2019, the 71-year-old was fired at the conclusion of the 2018–19 campaign.
Following a dismal run of games, O’Neill replaced Aitor Karanka; nonetheless, his unfavourable playstyle raised concerns among the supporters.
It’s reasonable to assume, though, that the former Aston Villa player still disapproves of the owner’s choice to fire him four years prior.
In an interview with Jim White and Simon Jordan on TalkSPORT, O’Neill discussed his firing.
“You know this concept of holding something dear to your heart, and then, after 19 games, all of a sudden, you’re getting bombed out.”
“As a football player who has long since retired, I had ten fantastic years at the football club, with the last five being the best you could hope for.”
“They’ve had roughly fifteen managers since he was fired.”
“At some point, everyone gets over something, but it’s a perfectly normal response. I had a 40% victory percentage in 19 games.
The growth of the forest in just four years is amazing.
The Reds had a respectable Championship under O’Neill, but since then, they have undergone an absolutely amazing change.
After gaining promotion, the team went on to surpass all expectations and assembled a team strong enough to contend for the top half of the Premier League.
The current Reds manager, Steve Cooper, has been instrumental in that development, bringing the team’s forwards both on and off the pitch.
