When the transfer window reopens in the new year, there is a chance they will act. Ekwah played for the Chelsea under-18 and under-23 teams while he was signed to their roster.

In addition, he briefly played for Nantes in the 2017–18 campaign and was a member of the Hammers for two years, despite not making any starts for the first team. Meanwhile, Sunderland is currently without a manager following their split from Tony Mowbray.

After defeating Leeds United on Tuesday, the Black Cats have risen to sixth place in the standings, continuing their strong start to the season.
