See why Notts County boss has say on transfer plans for the summer*

Notts County boss Stuart Maynard has said he will look to ‘add’ to the group this summer.
Notts County will aim to be active in the transfer window once this season is over.

They were promoted from the National League last year along with Wrexham and are currently sat in 14th position in the table.

Maynard has provided this update regarding his recruitment plans in an interview with the official YouTube channel: “I think we need to add to the group in the summer to make sure we can combat the opposition and make us stronger for League Two.

“If you look at it now, it’s their (the players’) first season within League Two. We know the strengths and weaknesses of teams at this level now. A lot of teams want to put it in their box at every angle, we need to make sure physically we are better.”

Maynard’s comments hint at potential defensive acquisitions and the statistics back this up. Notts County have let in 74 goals in this campaign in their 39 matches so far.

That is the most goals conceded by any team in the whole of League Two and even the bottom two Forest Green Rovers and Salford City have managed to be better at the back.

The Magpies’ leaky defence has been a key reason why they haven’t been able to sustain their push for the play-offs. They are eight points off the top seven now with seven fixtures left to play.

Their one saving grace this term has been the fact they are capable of scoring goals. In fact, only table toppers Mansfield Town have managed to find the net more.

Notts County need to ensure that they keep hold of striker Macaulay Langstaff if they are to be serious contenders next year.

It has been a tough spell for Maynard at Meadow Lane since he left Wealdstone to take over after Luke Williams’ exit to Swansea City.

He has won only two of his first 12 matches in charge, losing eight of them.

The Magpies are back in action over the Easter weekend with a trip to Swindon Town on Friday and then a home clash against MK Dons on Monday.
