Seth McLaughlin will be a Buckeye. The former Alabama football center announced he’ll spend his final year of eligibility at Ohio State.
McLaughlin spent four years with the Crimson Tide, starting for the better part of two seasons before entering the transfer portal this week. McLaughlin, of Buford, Ga., first started in the 2021 SEC Championship. He snapped for all 14 games this fall but struggled to find a consistent rhythm with Jalen Milroe.
McLaughlin announced his post on social media. He had been a part of UA’s improving offensive line before the Rose Bowl. McLaughlin donated his NIL proceeds from a “Run The Damn Ball” hat to the West Alabama Food Bank, the Tide averaging more than 170 yards per game on the ground.
Yet, McLaughlin’s erratic snaps were costly, leading to multiple sacks against No. 1 Michigan as the line overall crumbled. McLaughlin didn’t take questions from reporters after botching the final play of the game, in overtime, on the 3-yard line.
McLaughlin is the second offensive lineman to enter the portal, along with guard Terrence Ferguson. Right tackle JC Latham is also turning pro, giving position coach Eric Wolford two starters to replace ahead of next fall. UA will welcome former three-star offensive lineman Naquil Betrand, a transfer from Texas A&M, among its new additions.
