Man arrested after men shot and stabbed in Oldham ‘targeted attack

Two more arrests have been made after one man was shot and another was stabbed in Oldham. Officers were called out to the Royal Oldham Hospital at 8.30pm on Wednesday (July 10) after a man attended A&E with gunshot wounds.

Another man suffered knife wounds on Busk Road, in Chadderton, where police also attended. Both injuries have been linked to a ‘targeted attack’ by Greater Manchester Police.

A man have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident. The suspects, aged 22, remains in hospital for treatment as of this morning (July 11).

In an additional update released today, GMP stated that two women, ages 23 and 25, had been taken into custody on suspicion of aiding an offender.

Both have since been bailed. Those arrests follow warrants executed by GMP’s Major Incident Team and specialist officers yesterday, following ‘extensive enquiries’.

Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Although our enquiries are still in [their] early stages, we are appealing to the public for further information and details from this week to help us formulate what exactly happened in the moments leading up to two people becoming seriously injured. I understand the concern this will have raised around the areas but want to provide reassurance we are conducting regular patrols, searching through hours of CCTV and making progress to make sure we find all those responsible and will be relentless until we do so.

“Our work will continue this weekend and next week but recent intelligence suggests it was a targeted attack. I’d like to thank those who have reached out to us already, and for anyone who might have that tiny bit of additional evidence, you can contact us in confidence by calling 101 quoting incident 3740 on 22/05/2024. Alternatively, reports can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
