Just before the car caught fire after colliding in Oldham, four men were able to escape.
This evening, July 26, at approximately 7 p.m., police, paramedics, and firefighters hurried to New Delph Road in response to a car crash that resulted in fire. The others were able to flee unharmed, but one man needed medical attention on the spot.
A dramatic photo of the collision that police posted online shows smoke rising from a burning car as firefighters fight the fire. Thick smoke plumes are rising from the burned-out car, and a police car is also visible in the picture.
The image and the statement, “Local officers are dealing with a road traffic collision on Delph new road, fire and rescue and ambulance also in attendance please find an alternative route,” are posted on the GMP Saddleworth & Lees Facebook page.
After being dispatched, one fire engine and a technical response unit arrived at the scene, where firefighters battled to contain the fire.
“At around 7pm this evening (Wednesday, 26th July), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on Delph New Road in Oldham,” a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson stated.
“A single car that had crashed and caught fire was the subject of a swift response from the Ashton fire station’s Technical Rescue Unit and one fire engine from the Oldham fire station.
Before the fire crews arrived, four men had managed to escape the car on their own. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and GMFRS trauma technicians treated one male patient on the spot.
While fire fighters battled to put out the fire, Greater Manchester Police colleagues blocked off the area. While they attempt to make the area safe, crews stay on duty.
