Two dead after Audi with six people inside crashes into M60 traffic lights

Two people have been confirmed dead after an Audi hatchback with SIX people inside crashed into traffic lights on a slip road of the M60 motorway, police said today.

Greater Manchester Police said six people were found in the vehicle, an Audi A3, when emergency services arrived at the scene in the early hours.

Two of them, added GMP, are ‘currently receiving treatment for what are believed to be serious injuries’. They were said to be in a ‘serious condition’. No sexes or ages for the injured parties have been revealed.

As previously said, at four in the morning on Saturday, police and paramedics were rushed to the M60’s anticlockwise exit slip lane at junction 22, close to Chadderton in Oldham. At the scene, the white Audi was seen to be seriously damaged.

The intersection with Hollinwood Interchange, which is beside an Esso garage on the side of the road, was taped off. Investigators stated that an inquiry was still underway and that the police was requesting that witnesses or anyone with information come forward.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “At around 4am this morning (Monday July 1 2024) our officers were alerted to a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the M60, the junction 22 anti-clockwise exit slip road.

“It transpired an Audi A3 car was travelling in the direction of Hollinwood Interchange in Oldham before colliding with traffic lights and coming to a stop on the slip road.

“Six people were found inside, with two currently receiving treatment for what are believed to be serious injuries.

“Road closures remained in place this morning whilst officers conducted further enquiries.”

The GMP’s Serious Collision investigating Unit’s Detective Constable Rachael Stafford stated that the investigating team was attempting to determine what transpired.

“Since the early hours of this morning, we have been investigating this incident to fully understand what went wrong and why two peopleare confirmed dead,” the speaker stated.”Anyone who saw the accident or the car before this occurrence is welcome to speak with us.
