Police close road as four are rushed to hospital after fatal crash in Oldham

Following an accident on a Saddleworth road yesterday evening in which the car caught fire, four people were sent to the hospital.

The incident occurred on Saturday, at around 11 a.m, on Delph New Road between Dobcross and Delph. Emergency services were contacted.

“One fire engine from Oldham Fire Station and the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton Fire Station quickly arrived at the scene, which involved one car that had crashed and caught fire,” a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesman said.

Before the fire crews arrived, four men had managed to escape the car on their own. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and GMFRS trauma technicians treated one male patient on the spot.

“While firefighters attempted to put out the fire, colleagues from Greater Manchester Police blocked off the road.”

The fire department attested that all four were transported to the hospital and that firefighters spent about two hours on the scene.
