There was a terrifying crash in Oldham that left one man dead and another critically injured. At approximately 4 p.m. today, police and fire personnel were dispatched to a collision on Ripponden Road involving a biker and a pedestrian.
One man, in his 20s, is critically injured, while the other, in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the site. The main thoroughfare, located near the M62’s junction 22, is still blocked in both directions.
“This afternoon, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., we were called to a road traffic collision between a motorbike and a pedestrian on Ripponden Road, Oldham,” a Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman stated. After coming to the scene with coworkers
Regretfully, a man in his seventies was declared deceased on the spot. The second man, a twentysomething, was transported to the hospital with potentially fatal injuries.While investigations are ongoing and there are major traffic closures, officers are asking the public to stay away from the area. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) added: “At just before 5pm today (Tuesday 20 ), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Ripponden Road, Oldham. One fire engine from Oldham quickly attended the incident which involved a motorcycle.
