So far, Reagan Ogle has been the only summer signing at Boundary Park, despite manager Micky Mellon stating at the close of last season that the squad needed “major surgery”.
There have been a number of exits, with Mark Shelton leaving by mutual consent and Harrison McGahey joining Welsh club The New Saints earlier this week at the end of his three-year deal with Oldham Athletic. Hallam Hope, Ben Tollitt and Brennan Dickenson are among a number of free agents who have not been offered new terms.
Mike Fondop, Dan Gardner and Devarn Green are in a similar position, but Mellon has previously said that the door has not been entirely closed to those players. However, a lot depends on squad size and what is left in the budget if other targets are secured.
With Shelton joining Barnet as their seventh summer addition after leaving Boundary Park, some clubs have nearly finished their hiring, while Halifax Town has had a busy summer.
Less than a week remains until the players return for preseason training, but right back Ogle—who the Latics pursued for more than a year—has filled a vacancy in the squad.Royle stated, “The market hasn’t really gotten going yet.”
We’re happy to welcome Reagan, someone we’ve been interested in since David (Unsworth) was here. Some clubs have shown initiative.
“Micky has clearly given him a lot of thought as well, and he’s a terrific guy and fit. He’s a right back, so he’ll be popular straight away. When David was here, he was at the top of the list, so I’m thrilled that Terry McPhillips and Micky McPhillips signed him and think highly of him too.
“Other than that we are looking to make some additions, some (more) players will be leaving probably.”
